“Braam, ek het my boek op ons twee vlugte China toe klaar gelees — dit is briljant. Toe ek by my seun kom, het hy die boek by my gevat en gesê ek kan hom weer terugkry as ek weer oorgaan na hulle toe!”
Sometimes the stories we write travel further than we imagined — and sometimes, they get hijacked by the next generation! Thank you, Fura, for taking Forgotten Soldiers with you across continents, and for sharing it with your family.
“One of the best renditions of the war in Angola that I am aware of. If you lived in South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s, this book is a must read.”
I am honoured to receive this powerful feedback from a reader in Australia. Forgotten Soldiers is reaching Echo brothers and their families across the world, a reminder that these stories still resonate deeply, even decades later and continents away.
I am reading a book called "Forgotten soldiers" there is a piece from the Epilogue of Book 3. Its starts "War is not new" and I can only say this about it..... from the words "The only thing left behind? " to the end of that part is......the truth in those few words are what people never understand until they are married to a soldier.
I was most fortunate to be married to a Parabat that served with the author of this book, Braam Pretorius.
I watched my husband's nightmares and night sweats and never understood. This book has brought much needed clarity about a lot of things where my husband was concerned, and I thank the author from the bottom of my heart. I just wish I had understood earlier the reasons behind them. (Red)
Good book. Intriguing, fascinating and a great part of history mixed with fiction. Great read!
